Ancient Strokes Design Studios artisans were trained and certified at the Safra Decoration Acadamy in Verona Italy as well as the School of Italian Plasters Decoration Academy in the US. All of our plasters are "green", non toxic, non-flammable, create an allergy free environment, prevent the growth of bacteria, mold, mildew, dust mites, and our lime plasters cure back to limestone and absorb moisture from the air (thus helping to regulate humidity). Other finishes we offer are stain resistant, graffiti resistant, and sound and thermal resistant.

Venetian Plaster is a decorative wall treatment, applied with an italian trowel. The movement of the trowel combined with several layers are what create the design. The Italians refer to this as "staining the plaster".

The manufacturer owns quite a bit of land in Italy and all the lime is mined from the italian alps, and aged for a minimum of 9 months. Italy has the purest lime and marble in the world. We also specialize in stenciling embedded, raised or embossed designs as well as sgraffito, which is a process used to scratch a design into the venetian plaster top layer before it is fully dry. This process exposes the underlying layer in a varying color and is quite a unique look. Our only limitation is our imagination.

We are able to match any color you choose from Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams. Most plasters are available in 1275 colors.

Ancient Strokes Design Studios can quickly assemble crews available for any size project anywhere in the US. No project is too large or too small. We are fully insured and certified.

Although Safra of Artenova is our primary source for venetian plasters, we do use other vendors who import solid lime based venetian plasters from Italy to give you more of a variety of looks. Each plaster provides a unique look and feel, as well as are all authentic venetian plasters. We can achieve any look you desire, whether that be traditional, italian, contemporary, rustic, spanish, european, egyptian, morrocan, country, french country, or shabby sheek, just to name a few.

We have access to the chemists in Italy for any technical questions or issues regarding special applications. Our lime based finishes are restoration approved. We use the plasters the Italians ask for by name. Safra's colorants, used to tint our plasters, were the only ones considered by the Italian Government for the restoration of the frescos in Florence's Cathedral Dome of Brunelleschi.

For 10,000 years lime has been used as a binder for plasters. The earliest being 8000 BC in Turkey. Lime usage virtually vanished by the mid 20th century. However, in the early 1970's, evidence began to surface of the damage to historic buildings caused by the use of cement and modern plasters. This led to a revival of the use of lime plasters, not only to conserve, but for new construction as well. Warwick Castle Ceasar's Tower is a prime example. Another is the Pantheon Temple in Rome, which has stood for nearly 2000 years.

Ancient Strokes has recently learned some facts about the fur industry. As the owner of Ancient Strokes Design, we do not agree with many of PETA's beliefs. We do however, believe animals should be treated humanely. Please click here to visit their website and view some of the horrific videos. Be forewarned, they are extremely gruesome and highly disturbing. Many animals are bludgeoned to death. Some are skinned alive. Many are poisoned and left to die slowly, convulsing, or electrocuted numerous times before dying.
